Their distinct molecular shape, which resembles a truncated cone with a hydrophobic interior and a hydrophilic outer surface, enables the formation of inclusion complexes via host-guest interactions. These complexes facilitate beneficial modifications such as enhancing the solubility and stabilizing unstable guest molecules. By forming inclusion complexes with bioactive components and drugs, CDs can increase the bioavailability of these compounds, providing benefits in the treatment of various diseases. Particularly, β-CD can form complexes by trapping hydrophobic molecules such as cholesterol in its hydrophobic cavity. Moreover, CDs are considered significant soluble dietary fibers due to their resistance against human digestive enzymes and their utilization by intestinal microbiota. All these features suggest that CDs could encapsulate phospholipids and food components, potentially improving or preventing metabolic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and neurological disorders by blocking the absorption of carbohydrates, fats, and cholesterol. Hypothesis papers are especially appropriate in pioneering areas of research or important areas that are afflicted by scientific controversy.
