Bertha Pappenheim is best known by her codename, Anna O. - the case that opens the collection Studies on Hysteria (1895), organized by Josef Breuer and Sigmund Freud. She was, however, much more than a case of hysteria. In this paper I present the translation from German into Portuguese of two texts that are part of Sisyphus Arbeit. Reisebriefe aus den Jahren 1911 und 1912 [Sisyphus Work. Travel letters from 1911 and 1912], first published in 1912 and in which Bertha Pappenheim discusses the grave vulnerability of Jewish women in Galicia and the Middle East. The selected texts are: Die “Immoralitat der Galizianerinnen” (The “immorality of women in Galicia”) and Schutz der Frauen und Madchen. Das Problem in allen Zeiten und Landern (Protection of women and girls. A problem relevant to all times and all countries).
