Increasing number of antennas will lead to cost increment and model complexity, this is considered an obstacle towards high data rates and spectral efficiency. Using software-defined radio, a software replacement to this hardware components could be devised by using tunable frequency transceivers instead of hardware antennas. Through MATLAB simulation, it has been shown that the existing Software Defined Radio transceivers have the ability to perform spatial modulation and outperform MIMO system.
