According to the World Health Organization, FGM is a violation of the rights of women and girl child. It is even more worrisome as evidence exists suggesting more involvement of health-care personnels in this act. The recent belief in some cultures that there may be decreased risk of complications following medicalization of the procedure may be untrue.
