Abstract

Recently, the concept of joint detection and communication (JDC) has drawn considerable attention in radar and sonar systems. In this paper, we propose a waveform design and processing method for the JDC based on multi-input multi-output sonar systems (JDC-MIMO). Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals are designed to perform target detection and information transmission simultaneously. Furthermore, a joint pilot design scheme is proposed for the JDC-MIMO system, which can significantly improve the spectrum utilization. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method has satisfactory performance in both detection and communication.
