Abstract

In electric power systems there are contingencies that can cause overload of any equipment, angular and voltage stability problems and frequency stability issues due to imbalances between load and generation. Most of those contingencies require disconnecting load to ensure the stability of the system and the integrity of the equipment. In most cases disconnection should be performed so quickly that it is possible only automatically. Such solutions are commonly referred by the acronym RAS, which means “Remedial Action Scheme”. UTE is currently implementing a solution of RAS [1] type to protect the network against the most severe contingencies.
