The questionnaire was developed based on the theoretical framework and it was send by mail to coaches. After the pre test the questionnaire resulted in 24 assertions, divided on three constructs: knowledge, skills and attitude. By means of multivariate statistics techniques, the questionnaire was reduced to 14 variables/questions. From a univariate statistical analysis, the results helped to outline an updated profile of the professional coach and profession performance in Brazil. According to the perception of 134 professionals, the competencies highlighted were ethic and confidentiality, and the establishment of the alliance between coach/coachee, followed by competencies related to communication, such as listening and communicating.
