Abstract

This paper studies the application of the distributed static synchronous series compensator DSSSC in the power flow control of 110 kV transmission system. The transformer-less DSSSC is developed to control the injected series voltage to regulate the power flow. The power electronics circuitry and control system of such compensator are developed and analyzed. The control system for power flow regulation is designed to provide fast and stable response at various modes of operation. The power flow control using the DSSSC is applied for two power system models; the two-machine model and the two parallel transmission line. The practical implementation and practical results emphasis the ability of the proposed compensator to control the injected voltage to control the power flow throw the transmission lines.
