Abstract
The author describes an MIS class in which the instructor, who also taught technical writing, required the students to develop prototype computer executive information systems and to write all of the documentation they would be asked to prepare when they build an MIS prototype application system in business. Some of the required technical reports included a work control plan, a business profile, and a requirements definition study. The students also prepared progress reports every two weeks throughout the semester, much the same as they would in many business situations. Students were graded on their skills in English, on their ability to analyze and solve problems, and on their presentations of their prototype applications.<>
