Abstract

In the U.A.E. both local and international students use mobile translation applications because of the strong sociological imperatives to learn English and it is having a powerful impact on language learning. Students regularly make use of translation apps in the classroom. These apps are not teachers and cannot know learners' needs or focus attention on course outcomes. Equally, teaching is disconnected from mobile translation technology. In the future, as technology evolves, translation software may make language learning obsolete. Until then, it will be the educator's job to connect this popular means of learning with language teaching.
