By using literature study methods and supported by the analysis of educational discourse, the results of the study of this paper show that first, the division between science and religion which was then followed institutionally, was the remnants of Dutch colonial politics. Second, Islamic education institutions, especially pesantren, which were originally a place of learning religion and a means of resistance to colonialism, experienced institutionalization and continued to maintain distance from the study of science and technology. Abstract

The higher education system in Indonesia still adheres to two sides, namely science education and religious education on the other side.
