The Influence of Students Sentence Structure Knowledge on Writing Essays. This study uses survey methods with path analysis techniques. The population of this study is students of Sekolah Dasar Negeri Bengkulu Tengah school year 2017/2018, and a sample of 5th grade students, totaling 150 people, on average between the ages of 10-11 years consisting of 80 male students and 70 female students. Data collection was done by questionnaire and test techniques. The results of the study concluded that: Knowledge of sentence structure has a direct positive effect on essay Writing Ability (0.441) and the amount of direct influence is 0.51 (51%) ". The conclusion is that essay writing skills are positively influenced directly by sentence structure knowledge. Increased knowledge of sentence structure will result in an increase in essay writing skills of 51%. Keywords—adverbial clause; writing culture

The development of critical thinking ability needs attention in learning. To achieve this goal, collaborative activities must create in learning. The teacher can giving students a jumping task as a stimulated to collaborative activities. This study aims to examine in depth the results of learning observations for subjects in Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and English in two partner schools of the Teacher Training and Education Faculty - University of Lampung, Indonesia. The study was conduct on 33 Senior high school students and 62 junior high school students from 2 partner schools. The focus of the research is observing collaborative activities, and improving students' critical thinking ability. Data analysis was carried out descriptively to an overview of the jumping tasks provided by educators, collaborative activities that occur to be able to create a learning community, and increase of students' critical thinking skills. The results of the study show that giving jumping tasks in learning activities (Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and English) enables collaborative activities in the learning community to trigger students' critical thinking ability in solving problem.

This study aims to determine fine motor skills in activities through pencil skills in children. This study used a classroom action research approach with a collaborative approach consisting of several cycles. Data collection methods used observation techniques and student work. Actions to improve fine motor skills with pencil skills were focused on using crayons in drawing activities. The result of this study showed that there was an increase in children's motor skills quantitatively. The study showed 78.6% of fine motor skills were in good classification. Likewise, aspects of fine motor skills also increase, such as the regularity of color scribble or streaks, the children capability to coloring by fulfilling all areas of image, neatness, timing, and accuracy. Keywords—fine motor skill; motorik skill; pencil skill; coloring

This study aims to showed that the students’ learning achievements of Sociology Education were influenced by the critical thinking ability of students themselves; both were taught using Group Investigation (GI) and Direct Instruction Learning strategies. The participants of this study were Sociology Education students at one of the private universities in Indonesia. This research design used a treatment by level 2 x 2 design. In this design, the independent variable consisted of Group Investigation Learning strategy and Direct Instruction Learning strategy (A). The independent variable attribute was classified into 2, namely high critical thinking and low critical thinking (B). The research hypothesis was tested using analysis of variance (ANAVA) of two-way 2 x 2 and continued with the Dunnet t test. The results showed that the students’ learning achievement who had high critical thinking ability was better taught using Group Investigation (GI) learning strategy compared with Direct Instruction (DI) learning strategy. Therefore, the students’ learning achievement who had low critical thinking ability was better taught using Direct Instruction (DI) Learning strategy than taught using Group Investigation (GI) learning strategy. The easiness of learning can be experienced if learning contents and contexts are related to students’ daily activities. One of them is a learning approach that has realistic characters based on ethnomathematics. The purpose of the study was to determine the influence of ethnomathematics and realistic mathematical approach on the ability to understanding concepts. The research was a quasi-experimental study to implementation of the realistic mathematics learning based on ethnomathematics. We were using the 2×2 factorial experiment design. The samples was 84 students of all students in one of the senior high schools in Rejang Lebong. Samples were selected with intact-group techniques. Data collection is done using instruments of understanding the ability of mathematical concepts. Data were analyzed by using covariate analysis. The results were the ability to understanding mathematical concepts from students taught with realistic mathematical learning approaches is higher than those taught with direct instruction, when two groups of students given ethnomathematics-oriented material. Keywords—ethnomathematics; realistic mathematics; understanding concepts

The purpose of this study was to improve students understanding of introductory oceanography with the aid of a computer program. The software that we used is Ocean Data View, abbreviated as ODV, which is proprietary yet freely available software for the analysis and visualization of oceanographic and meteorological data sets. This study used the quasi-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. A group consists of 30 undergraduate students of marine science study-program at University of Bengkulu was involved in this study. An open-ended question and questionnaire were used to collect data on students understanding on salinity, temperature, density and nutrients profiles in seawater. The results of the study show that students’ understanding of the introductory chemical and physical oceanography was improved significantly. Before using the ODV software, only 73.3% of total students answer the question correctly and it increased to 93.3% after the treatment. Moreover, before a thorough discussion of the ODV software, only 79.3% of students strongly agree that the software is easy to use and help them learning oceanography easier, that increased significantly to 92.7%. Therefore, we concluded that the visualization of seawater properties and nutrients distribution through ODV computer software is useful to assist students understanding of introductory oceanography class. The problem solving skills are part of learning mathematics and an important component of 21st century education. But students often experience success doing it. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between mathematical abilities, self-efficacy and problem solving abilities. This is a result of low mathematical abilities and self-efficacy. The research was a survey. Samples were randomly selected as many as 135 students from whole high school students in the Kota Bengkulu. The research instruments were a self-efficacy questionnaire, a mathematical ability test and a mathematical problem solving test. Data was analyzed using structural equation modeling. We used LISREL 8.8 to test the structural model. The results, there is a positive direct effect of mathematics ability on problem solving abilities; there is a positive direct effect of self-efficacy on problem solving abilities, and there is a positive direct effect of mathematics ability on self-efficacy.
