Abstract

This report describes two sections of an introductory computing class. One course was offered using conventional scheduled lectures and laboratories; the second in an independent study mode. Results show that the independent study students performed as well as those in the lecture course. Analysis of the use of multimedia resources suggests a need to adapt linear lecture material to a more dynamic, user-controlled format for multimedia presentation.
