This article is aimed at describing the combination of two of the method in students centered learning, problem-based and cooperative learning, to boost the motivation and competence of students in learning Introduction to General Linguistics for English. The research is conducted in the class provided for those who retake the course for 2nd or 3rd time. The results show that this combination worked reasonably well. Almost all of the students got satisfaction with the process.
