Abstract

Compared matrix converter with indirect frequency converter, the lacking DC-link accumulation element is its cardinal advantage in terms of volume and weight. On the other hand, in case of matrix converter the control system is much more complex. In the design of matrix converter switching pulse sequence generation the complicated IGBT's commutation process as well as modern sophisticated modulation strategies must be taken into account. System reliability is dependent on the selected commutation algorithm and the proposed modulation strategy significantly affects the maximal reachable output voltage amplitude and thus the whole connected drive dynamics.
