Abstract

This paper describes the dynamic stability analysis of test system with Power System Stabilizers (PSS) and Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) optimal control for a Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) system under small disturbance. Heffron-Phillip's model is derived for the test system. The analysis of the test system is carried out at nominal load condition. The performance of the system is checked with eigenvalue analysis. To compare with PSS, LQR provides better damping compared to PSS and without control.
