KUZNETSK TELEUTS IN THE DIARIES AND NOTES OF HISTORIANS AND ETHNOGRAPHERS: ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A LOCAL ETHNIC GROUP

Abstract

The article attempts to describe the cultural and ethnic distinctiveness of the Kuznetsk Teleut who represent a territorially separate group of Teleuts, one of the smaller indigenous peoples of Siberia. It traces the specifics of the local development of this group in the 20th-21st centuries. The research draws primarily on archival sources containing records and fieldnotes of ethnographers studying the Altai region, such as A.V. Anokhin, P.I. Karal’kin, and A.G. Danilin, and the own fieldwork materials of the author.
