THE EVALUATIVE COMPONENT OF LEXICAL UNITS IN THE TEXT OF AN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE MOVIE BLOG

Abstract

Постановка задачи. Влияние контекста на значение лексических единиц является одной из центральных проблем в современных семантических исследованиях. Технический прогресс, появление новых жанров, социальные изменения порождают новые контексты употребления, что сопровождается приращением новых смыслов. Данные процессы не обошли стороной мир кино: языковые единицы, типичные для данной сферы, приобрели новые оттенки значения, некоторые слова, которые пришли из других областей человеческой жизни, также подверглись модификации. Задачами данной статьи являются изучение развития семантики слов woke, modern и Hollywood в контексте англоязычного киноблога и определение коннотативных значений, приобретаемых данными лексемами. Результаты. В ходе исследования был проведен компонентный анализ слов woke, modern, Hollywood позволивший установить семантический состав данных лексем. Контекстуальный анализ фрагментов киноблогов, содержащих данные единицы, позволил выделить коннотативные значения, которые формируются под влиянием языкового окружения в рамках данного жанра. Выводы. Изучение выбранных лексем позволило установить новые коннотативные значения, специфичные для жанра киноблога. В семантике рассматриваемых слов были выделены следующие семы: woke – incompetent, criminal/unlawful, lacking money; modern – undesirable, disordered, unprofitable; Hollywood – politically biased. Полученные оттенки значения выражают отрицательную оценку, которая дается современной блогосферой некоторым тенденциям современного кинематографа и которая находит отражение в семантике лексических единиц. Problem statement. The influence of context on the meaning of lexical units is one of the central problems in modern semantic research. Technical progress, the emergence of new genres, and social changes give rise to new contexts of use, which is accompanied by an increase in new meanings. These processes have not bypassed the world of cinema: linguistic units typical for this sphere have acquired new shades of meaning; some words that came from other areas of human life have also undergone modification. The objectives of this article are to study the development of the semantics of the words woke, modern and Hollywood in the context of an English-language movie blog and to determine the connotative meanings acquired by these lexemes. Results. In the course of the study, a component analysis of the words woke, modern and Hollywood was conducted, which allowed us to establish the semantic composition of these lexemes. Contextual analysis of fragments of film blogs containing these units made it possible to identify connotative meanings that are formed under the influence of the environment within the given genre. Conclusion. The study of the selected lexemes made it possible to establish new connotative meanings specific to the cinema blog genre. The following semes were identified in the semantics of the words: woke - incompetent, criminal/unlawful, lacking money; modern - undesirable, disordered, unprofitable; Hollywood - politically biased. The obtained shades of meaning express the negative evaluation given by the modern blogosphere to some tendencies of modern cinema, which is reflected in the semantics of lexical units.
