Abstract
This research aims at revealing the concept content characteristics. The object of the analysis is represented by the concept TASTE, which is studied through the lexeme “taste”, being its means of verbalisation in the English language. The author examines the concept TASTE with the help of some general scientific and linguistic methods, such as the descriptive method, the definition analysis and others. The concept content and its structure are determined by learning dictionary definitions of the word “taste”, attributes “sweet”, “sour”, “bitter”, “salt” and by analyzing the evaluative component of the contexts. The results of the research may help to understand the English-speaking people’s mental world peculiarities, as the best way of describing the nature of the concept is provided by the language units, the lexeme “taste” being one of them. The article concludes that the English language proves the existence of the concept TASTE, which in its turn presents one of the basic concepts in the English mental worldview.
