The meshless method based on radial basis functions is combined with the variational principle and applied to the analysis of a rectangular waveguide filled with an inhomogeneous material. The minimization of the functional involving the magnetic field allows for the determination of the dispersion diagram of the structure, leading to the calculation of a large number of propagating modes with a limited number of unknowns and in a very short computation time. Abstract
