Smart Area Aachen - in field test of meter placement and state estimation algorithms for distribution grids
As decentralized generation capacities in German distribution grids are rising, a growing number of distribution system operators (DSOs) are facing new problems and challenges. On the other hand different technologies and methodologies are emerging and enabling DSOs to handle the new challenges. These technologies are often summarized using the abstract term “smart grid”. The design, installation and in field test of such a smart grid is the target of the project “Smart Area Aachen”. In order to do so the project consortium consists of partners from science as well as partners from industry and is divided into different sub-projects which focus on individual aspects of future smart grids, e.g. communication infrastructure, remote controlled substations and network planning considering new equipment and infrastructure. The following paper presents the sub-project “State Estimation in Distribution Grids” which focusses on distribution system state estimation and optimal meter placement.
