Your treatment is with combined oral contraceptives and metformin. Therefore, it was aimed to identify the benefits of using metformin in patients with PCOS. An Integrated Literature Review (RIL) was carried out, based on the evaluation of secondary sources, carried out in six steps: It was defined the theme of the study and constituted the guiding question, then the Controlled Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) : \"Metformin\" NA D \"Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome\" and began the search in PubMed, Science Direct and VHL databases. There were 5,285 publications and after the application of exclusion and inclusion criteria, the sample consisted of 19 articles. Then, the categorization was carried out, the analysis and interpretation of the selected studies, the development of the results and the presentation of the revision / synthesis of the knowledge. Findings from the studies showed that metformin brings great benefits mainly to obese women with PCOS because it improves the metabolism of insulin and sex hormones, reducing levels of insulin resistance and progression to type 2 diabetes mellitus, it also reduces levels of inflammatory cytokines and acts as a coadjuvant in the treatment of infertility in clomiphene-resistant women.
