Introduction: Replaying the Francophone Early Modern

Abstract:The introduction to the special issue, "Replaying the Francophone Early Modern in the Twenty-First Century," offers an entry point to the articles presented therein. It overviews different meanings of the term 'replay,' while situating the term in relation to broader concerns over temporality and repetition in the context of early modern studies as well as theatre and performance studies. The introduction then turns to one particular case of replaying as found in Molière in the Park's recent performance of The School for Wives before presenting the different ways in which the articles engage with the concept of 'replay.'
