Harmonic Distortion Improvement Considering Bulk Charging Station and Distributed Generation
The extensive usage of the charging station (CS) due to the popularity of electric vehicle (EV) conveys the adverse influences on the existing power system. Higher penetration of CS, especially without proper coordination, may cause multiple issues such as increasing demand and introduce harmonic distortion. The present of harmonic distortion from CS based on the design of power conversion, which requires electronic devices. The harmonic from CS typically based on the state of charge (SOC) of the battery. Other than that, the CS demand pattern ordinarily difficult to control, especially for the load that has a mixed routine. Based on past research, the CS operation can be operated from residence, parking lot and specific station. This research focuses on minimization total harmonic distortion (THD) for voltage and current parameters by seeing CS from residential. The simulation-based on the 48-bus radial distribution system with two residential areas. Then, suitable sizing and placement of multiple passive filters used to minimize harmonic distortion with assistance metaheuristic technique approach. From results, the proposed method able to reduce THD voltage and current concurrently for overall busses and medium voltage lines. The proposed method is useful to assist utility to mitigate high penetration harmonic distortion issues.
