Abstract

We developed low-cost maintenance-free environmental sensors and their network that we used to gather local climate conditions in the field. The features of our approach are the low-cost yet accurate sensors, photovoltaic energy-harvesting, and cloud data processing. We could build a sensor network that was maintenance-free, was low environmental impact (we used supercapacitors instead of batteries to store harvested energy), and was cheap enough that can be massively installed it in the field.
