Abstract

I l l u s t r a t e d c a s e s o f autom obile and alarm system s u s c e p t i b i l i t i e s caused by e le c tr o m a g n e t i c r a d ia t io n emphasize t h a t m a l fu n c t io n and f a i l u r e problems are be ­ coming more commonplace in our commercial environment. Most problems a re due t o land m obile t r a n s m i t t e r s . FCC e s t a b l i s h e d maximum and minimum a v a i l a b l e power l e v e l s u s in g o m n id ir ec t io n a l and high ga in antennas are com­ pared w ith measured f i e l d i n t e n s i t i e s to determine rea so na b le s u s c e p t i b i l i t y t e s t l e v e l s a g a i n s t which to d e s ig n equipment. These l e v e l s and th e t e s t methods o f the RS03 and RS04 t e s t s in MIL-STD-461A can then be used from 1 MHz through 1 GHz as a standard to t e s t the s a f e t y o f commercial equipment.
