Abstract

This study was intended to do basic research on exercise prescriptive basis for maintaining the health of female college students by analyzing 16 weeks self directed Korea Dance program on regional bone mineral density of female college students with sarcopenia syndrome. The subjects were of 16 female college students with sarcopenia, they were divided into two groups: the Korea dance group(n=8) and the control group(n=8). Self d irected Korea d ance g roup p articipated in r egular Korea d ance p rogram for 40 minutes a day, 3 times per week for 16 weeks, whereas control group were asked to maintain normal lifestyle during the same period. Variables of regional bone mineral density(arm, leg, trunk, ribs, pelvis, lumber, spine, total) were measured and compared between korea dance group and control group as well as pre and post-training using two way repeated ANOVA. Main results were as follows. Both the dance group and the control group had the highest bone density in the lumbar region, and the lowest bone density in the ribs and pelvis regions. Arm, trunk, total BMD was increased significantly in the dance group. lumbar region BMD was decreased statistically significantly in the control group, and the analysis of variance showed a significant difference between groups. Leg region BMD was the analysis of variance also showed a significant difference between groups. Total BMD were statistically significantly improved in the dance group, and as a result of ANOVA, there was a significant difference between groups, and a significant interaction effect appeared. In conclusion, self directed Korean Dance program would have positive effects on regional bone mineral density in female college students with sarcopenia syndrome. It also preventing the prevalence of musculoskeletal diseases. It helps to maintain the independent lives of the female college students and provides them with a sense of confidence and achievement by preventing hypofunction mentally and physically. Therefore, we should strive to develop the dance program for health life.
