Shang Han Zheng Jie is a four-volume medical book, an annotation for Shang Han Lun by Dai Yaochi in the Qing Dynasty. It was first published in the tenth year of the Tongzhi Period in the Qing Dynasty (1871). It was found that the existing version is only the engraved one in the tenth year of the Tongzhi Period (1871). The book consisting of three full volumes with each volume separately located in the library of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the library of Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine, and the library of the Medical College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University respectively. The one with the author's stamp, collected by the Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is believed to be the most valuable version. Beyond that, the other two fragment books have been collected by the Medical Branch of Wuhan University Library and the library of Tianjin Medical College respectively. Its author Dai Yaochi annotated Shang Han Lun by revising, deleting, splitting and merging the content to minimise negligence and playing new tricks. He believed that "typhoid fever is a process of identifying the six meridians. If the six meridians failed to be clarified, the clinical symptoms would not be treated reasonably" after editing the complicated and messy provisions of the original texts. Therefore, he recompiled the style of Shang Han Lun in his book Shang Han Zheng Jie, reorganised his book with the Six Meridians, and reinterpreted Shang Han Lun based on his own understanding and other annotations of previous authors.

Weisheng Bao(The Health News), as a journal of traditional Chinese medicine in the period of the Republic of China, was first published in Shanghai in December 1927. One of its most popular and distinctive topics was "to prevent and treat the epidemic diseases with traditional Chinese Medicine ". Weisheng Bao examined and discussed the diseases, such as salix, cholera, dysentery, scarlet fever, malaria, tuberculosis and plague by collecting the experiences of well-known physicians, integrating medical theories of China and the west and considering local characteristics during epidemic periods. It took diverse measures to satisfy the needs of the public, such as theory discussion, drug advertisement, medical knowledge, policy news and describing medical cases. The content of Weisheng Bao focused on etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, prescription and case studies, with special issues sometimes. The section of disease prevention involved urban construction, disinfection and sterilization, food and water sources and air cleaning. It was found that Weisheng Bao innovated based on traditional Chinese medicine, integrated Chinese medicine with western medicine, paid attention to environment and faced the public. This can provide references for the prevention and treatment of epidemic diseases today.

The authorship of the book Wen Yi Ming Bian and Guang Wen Yi Lun, a historical controversy, have the same content but different names. It was widely believed that Dai Tianzhang was the author of the two books rather than Zheng Dianyi. This study examined the two authors' biography, diverse versions of authors notes and other relevant materials that remained, and the compatibility between the content and the book names. It was found that Zheng Dianyi was a physician with excellent medical skills and ability to compile the book, whereas Dai Tianzhang was a local celebrity and gentleman who had some medical skills with some medical experience. The author for various versions of Wen Yi Ming Bian was recorded as "She Yi (the place where Zheng Dianyi lived) Zheng Dianyi". The author for the versions related to Dai Tianzhang were normally shown as "Revised by Dai Linjiao (the penname of Dai Tianzhang)". In this sense, the author of Wen Yi Ming Bian can be argued to be Zheng Dianyi. Additionally, the name of Wen Yi Ming Bian is different from Guang Wen Yi Lun in meanings. Bian () in Wen Yi Ming Bian means to distinguish the right from the wrong, therefore, indicates to distinguish, for example, typhoid fever from warm epidemic, making Guang () in Guang Wen Yi Lun far away from it. Thus, the author of Wen Yi Ming Bian should be Zheng Dianyi. Guang Wen Yi Lun should be the different name when Wen Yi Ming Bian was hand copied. It can be concluded that Dai's grandsons statement "the two books were written by Dai Tianzhang" is subjective speculation, without sufficient evidence.

Lei Zheng Zhu Shi Qian Shi Xiao Er Fang Jue, written by Xiong Zongli in the Ming Dynasty, is an important annotation of Xiao Er Yao Zheng Zhi Jue. It was twice put into the Catalog of National Rare Books of China. It remained with ten versions currently based on historical records and some book catalogs. This paper used a fieldwork and textural research method on the diverse versions of this book in terms of re-editions, version characters and the content. It was found that new versions and new collections were discovered, and some suspected versions with the names of others and versions mixed with others were also unearthed, resulting in insufficient version information. This paper clarified the version source and divided it into two version systems. One is the copy carved into something as the first published book, including the publication at the beginning period of the Ming dynasty and the reprint of the Cun De Tang by Chen Shihuang and the handwritten copy in Japanese in the third year of the Zheng De period in the Ming dynasty. Another is the copy system carved into something by Wu Mianxue, involving the version of Wu Mianxue in Xin An School in the period of Wan Li in the Ming Dynasty, the one in Dou Zhen Da Quan, the one in Yi Sheng Tang in the Ming Dynasty, the handwritten copy in the period of Wan Li in the Ming Dynasty and the carving copy by Qian Long Xuan in the 13 years of Bao Li in Japan.

Ointment rubbing therapy, as an external therapy of traditional Chinese medicine, combines massage techniques with ointment as medium and has been used in the treatment of internal and external medicine, gynecological, pediatric, androgenic and orthopedic conditions. This therapy originated from the Pre-Qin periods and was fully developed in the Song, Jin and Yuan dynasties. It is still often seen today because it was widely used by physicians in previous dynasties. However, it was not fully passed on and is not well known currently because many books and monographs related to it cannot be found and many of its ancient prescriptions have not been explored. This paper traces the origin of ointment rubbing therapy and summarises its characteristics and representative ancient books in each historical period, in order to provide references for research of ointment rubbing therapy.

The term 'Qu Qiao' originally came from Taoism (Dao Jiao) and referred to the human body which was opposite to the spirit (Shen). After being brought into traditional Chinese medicine, its connotation was widely extended and enriched. This paper examined the process through which 'Qu Qiao' came into Chinese medicine and the connotation and extension in this process. It was found that this term was developed at levels and structure as a demonstration of the cognition of ancient physicians on physiology and pathology in terms of parts of the human body and their relationship. The study of this term is valuable to enrich the acupuncture theories and helpful to promote pertinence in terms of clinical discrimination and treatment.

Chinese social thought and moral ethics underwent significant transformations because of modern social structure changes. Medical ethics with Chinese characteristics came into being with the introduction of modern western medicine and medical ethics into China. This indicated that Chinese medical ethics might be the integration of Chinese traditional ethics and western medical ethics. It was found that the development of modern Chinese medical ethics involved the following characteristics -- attaching importance to the consistence of the power and responsibilities of physicians, highlighting the function of medical societies and legislation in professional ethics, pledging their medical secrets, and being patriotic to their motherland. It was also found that the development of modern Chinese medical ethics had some deficiency because of the times and social backgrounds. These complicated characteristics and values of modern Chinese medical ethics can be taken as references for the further development of contemporary Chinese medical ethics.
