The design and simulation of a Full-Bridge Flying-Capacitor Multilevel-Inverter (FB-FCMI) for high-voltage applications are presented. The power inverter topology consists of two legs: each one with three commutation cells, six switches and two flying-capacitors. The proposed control system provides twelve square signals for all switches that compose the inverter, which is driven at a commutation frequency fSW≈6.66 kHz. The output frequency f0, is equal to three times the commutation frequency. The inductor and capacitor in the resonant-circuit design is calculated based on f0, which depends on the number of cells, N. The goal of the proposed inverter design is to demonstrate that, the output frequency increases as rate of f0 = N∙ fSW. In order to show the effect of the increase in the number of cells, a resonant power inverter is designed and simulated, first with three and then with six switching cells, at f0 = 20 kHz. Finally, the FB-FCMI is connected to the primary winding of the high-voltage transformer, while the secondary is coupled to a Dielectric Barrier Discharge reactor represented by its electrical model, to generate an electrical discharge in helium.

This work presents the mechatronic development of a reciprocating machine for sliding contact, which can perform sliding wear tests on materials and coatings in a ball-on-flat configuration. A shaker of variable frequency is used. The shaker moves a shaft that holds the ball, which makes contact by sliding with the plane (specimen). The machine has the ability to perform tests in dry and lubricated conditions, as well as at different temperatures ranging from room temperature to 500°C. It has a program where the test parameters are controlled, as well as an automatic stop once the programmed number of cycles has been reached. An interface, a data acquisition card and a data storage were implemented. Therefore the mechatronics integration was satisfactory and the results of the preliminary tests performed were supported by profilometry, optical microscopy and calculation of the coefficient of friction.

Of all the popular beliefs, other than the metaphysical beliefs of bettors on lottery draws, such as lucky numbers, beliefs about the role played by the weight of the balls in the draw are very ingrained. The lighter or heavier balls are believed to be depending on the type of randomizer; It is believed that the weight of the balls is the variable that hides the black box of the system. This article analyzes this fact through statistical tests on real information, lottery draws of coupons in the year 2000 and discards such beliefs as attributions made on frustrated hopes. However, the distribution of weights offers biases that, failing to affect draws, could, at first glance, make credible the belief of the bettor. Therefore, a statistical analysis was performed in two levels, static weight of the balls and influence of the randomizer
