Twenty six named, valid, worker-based Australian 'Meranoplus' species are recognised, and one from New Caledonia. The queen-based 'M. dichrous' Forel, 'M. doddi' Santschi and 'M. hospes' Forel are designated 'species inquirendae'. New synonymies include: 'M. puryi' Forel = 'M. puryi curvispina' Forel and 'M. armatus' Fr. Smith = 'M. rugifrons' Emery. The subspecies 'M. aureolus doddi' Santschi, 'M. aureolus linae' Santschi, 'M. diversus duyfkeni' Forel, 'M. diversus oxleyi' Forel, 'M. diversus unicolor' Forel, 'M. hirsutus minor' Forel, 'M. hirsutus rugosus' Crawley, and 'M. mars ajax' Forel are raised to species. The Melanesian 'M. armatus' Fr. Smith is recorded for the first time from Australia.

Forty-eight quadrinominal infrasubspecific names of Australian ants are reviewed. Three are considered to be available under the provisions of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. It is recommended that the remaining 45 should be excluded from future use as specific epithets in the appropriate genera.

The types of sixty-two species in the scelionid genera 'Idris' Forster, 'Ceratobaeus' Ashmead, 'Odontacolus' Kieffer, 'Hickmaniella' Austin-(Idrini); 'Baeus' Haliday, 'Mirobaeoides' Dodd-(Baeini) and 'Mirobaeus' Dodd-(Embidobiini), are listed together with corrections for the first time. Examination of these types has resulted in the sinking of three genera and twenty-eight new combinations. 'Ceratobaeoides' Dodd is synonymized with 'Odontacolus' Kieffer, 'Dissacolus' Kieffer is synonymized with 'Idris' Forster and 'Notoscelio' Hickman is synonymized with 'Mirobaeoides' Dodd. The location, references and condition (where important) are given for each type, and the relationships and biology of the group are discussed.
