The aim of this study was to evaluate, using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), the self-perception of the oral health condition and the periodontal condition of chronic kidney disease patients on dialysis. Methodology: The study was cross-sectional and case-control. Participants were over 18 years of age, of both sexes and underwent periodontal evaluation and answered questionnaires about sociodemographic data, comorbidities, oral hygiene habits and the OHIP-14. The tests used were Chi-square or Fisher’s exact; Shapiro-Wilk and Mann-Whitney; t-test; to compare groups. The significance level was 5%. Results: The sample consisted of 90 patients, 40 from the experimental group and 50 from the control group, of which 54 were men and 36 were women. The mean age in the experimental group was 47.88 ± 14.45 and in the control group it was 43.38 ± 15.56 (p=0.015). The total Ohip-14 score was 8.51 ± 6.24 (CKD) and 7.94 ± 7.40 (control) (p=0.32). The CKD group had worse periodontal condition compared to the control regarding the presence and severity (stage) of periodontitis (p<0.0001), visible plaque index (p=0.0002) and number of missing teeth (p<0.0001). Conclusion: The self-perception of oral health of chronic kidney patients did not differ from individuals without kidney complications. However, there was a greater periodontal impairment in patients on dialysis.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health condition that can affect up to 15% of the adult population and is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), similar to the risks of diabetes or coronary heart disease. Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for renal replacement therapy in patients with end-stage renal disease. Despite the significant survival advantage of kidney transplantation compared to continuous dialysis, CVD is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality and graft loss. The aim of this study was to assess cardiopulmonary function and measure respiratory and peripheral muscle strength in kidney transplant recipients. The sample consisted of nine kidney transplant recipients treated at the Hospital Regional do Baixo Amazonas. Pulmonary function remained unchanged despite a reduction in respiratory muscle strength, and these results may be correlated with the length of time spent on hemodialysis, hospitalization, medication taken pre and post-transplant, as well as post-operative complications. After the kidney transplant, there were changes related to physical function and lower limb strength, with a decrease in muscle strength.
