With the wide application of multimedium,image compression field appeal to a new national standard to satisfy the requirement which the user demand for the more accurate efficiency,the elasticity and the mutual function to image compression.So JPEG has been emerge.This paper discuss the background of JPEG2000,the main advantage and shortcoming of JPEG,and it introduce the primary characteristic and excellence of JPEG2000.
