Objective To explore the relation of the puncture position and the optimal indwelling time of intravenous catheter system in different age stage children. Method 1559 Cases were divided into three groups according to age in pediatric surgery of our hospital: newborn, infant and school age children. Then statistical analysis was carried out on the relation of puncture position and indwelling time of intravenous catheter system. Results In newborn group, the indwelling time of intravenous catheter system of scalp vein and upper extremity vein were longer than lower limb vein(P0.05). In infant group, the indwelling time of intravenous catheter system of scalp vein longer than upper extremity vein, both longer than lower limb vein (P0.05). There was no significant difference in school age child group. ②Comparing the indwelling time of intravenous catheter system in different age stage children, the school age group was the longest and the infant group was the shortest. Conclusion The optimal puncture position of intravenous catheter system is scalp vein in newborn and infant, upper extremity vein is the best choice in the school age .The optimal indwelling time of intravenous catheter system is about 94 hours.
