From 2011, XM Intelligent Management Real Time Systems, subsidiary of ISA, operation has started the operation of Traffic Control Center of Medellin, through the newly created company Sistemas Inteligentes en Red S.A.S. For the effective implementation of this work, it requires constant monitoring and clear of all elements involved in the vehicular traffic in the city. This task was made for several years with independent information systems that did not permit a complete and fast display of all elements. Additionally they were not georeferenced. What made it difficult decisions for the operator to the large amount of information handled in this process. This paper presents an information system addition to integrate and synthesize all the information, it presents in a georeferenced map of Medellin. The new system show the location of the traffic agents, traffic incidents, the red light cameras, video analytics, The Weather Network Early Warning System of Medellin (SIATA), programmed road closures and variable message signals VMS, they allow a fast understanding of the events on ways, and therefore timely execution of procedures in transit operation. The system was implemented in Arcgis Online, in addition to the above benefits, was the benchmark and starting point in the implementation of the new traffic management center HERMES. The advantage geographical in handling information and decisions, it represents to the Control Center key benefits for circulation in terms of lower response times and traffic incidents in the dynamic and online guidance to users of the road network, finally resulting in the improvement mobility of the city.
从2011年开始,ISA的子公司XM Intelligent Management Real Time Systems通过新成立的公司Sistemas intelligentes en Red S.A.S.

The problems associated with vehicular traffic are becoming more noticeable in large cities and highways, mainly because it is becoming less feasible to build new roads or expand the existing ones. This issue is beginning to be treated as a control systems optimization problem, where the objective is to maximize the use of the existing infrastructure. However, the size of the traffic networks and the large number of variables make the implementation of optimization-based centralized control schemes not feasible. This article presents the development of distributed and decentralized predictive controllers for traffic control purposes. The proposed schemes are tested in simulation environment using a highway with two access ramps and an urban traffic network composed by three intersections.

Vehicular communications are considered as a key factor to improve road safety and enhance urban mobility. The design and deployment of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) involve several decision criterias that lead the research into new challenging tasks to be solved. Routing mechanism is a fundamental component for the success of any vehicular application; the particular features of VANETs - a highly dynamic topology, links frequently disrupted and a fragmented network - require an efficient, robust and scalable routing strategy for each application. In this paper, we present a survey of routing protocols and we also provide a simulation testbed that will be used to assess the performance of the selected protocols.

This paper investigates the use of ultracapacitors as an energy storage system for metropolitan railway systems. The basic concept is to take advantage of the energy generated during the braking process of trains, which is otherwise wasted and transformed into heat. A power system simulation was created as a tool to analyze the behavior of a stationary ultracapacitor bank connected to the Metro system. Ultracapacitor modules were dimensioned adequately, power electronic elements were adjusted and further a control system was established. Amongst others the simulation demonstrates the impact of varying the distance between ultracapacitors and traction power substation. Furthermore the dependency of the ultracapacitor's technical specifications on charging and discharging behavior is shown. The simulation allows a large number of parameters to be modified through the easy-to-handle user interface. A scientific method is provided to analyze ultracapacitor assisted regenerative braking of metropolitan railway systems. As an example the Metro of Medellín in Colombia is applied and rounded out by an estimation of economic viability.

Mobility is an important area in the transport and currently is a growing problem in Colombian capital, Bogota; therefore we propose the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) based on technology Bluetooth for Generation of Origin/destination (O/D) matrix in an automatic way which allow analyzing and diagnose the mobility in two important sites in the city.

This article presents a methodology to implement intelligent control systems based on fuzzy logic to evaluate the behavior of the pavements in real time through strain sensors, humidity, temperature and vehicular traffic; in this research project has been designing a intelligent control to monitor the associated instrumentation to the most important variables in the urban roads, in order to predict the damage on the road to the staff responsible for the maintenance of these; taking as a point of reference the tests designed with standards INVIAS in the laboratory of CORASFALTOS.

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) solutions expect availability of the secure seamless communications solutions typically covering widely spread areas. Different solutions require different levels of telecommunications service quality. These parameters have to correspond with ITS service performance parameters required by specific service. Even though quite extensive range of wireless data services with reasonable coverage are provided by public telecommunications providers practically all services are provided with no guaranteed data service quality and security. ITS requirements can be better resolved if typically used public solution is combined with both other public as well as private services where and when it is needed. Such solution requires implementation of relevant flexible system architecture supported by the efficient decision processes. Paper is concentrated on the telecommunications security issues with dynamically changing wide area networking. Expected level of security depend on relevant ITS services requirements. It is well known fact that data volumes transferred both in private data vehicle on board networks as well as between vehicles and infrastructure or other vehicles significantly and progressively grow. Such trend leads to increase of the fatal problems appearance probability if security of the wide area networks is not relevantly treated. Probability of hazards appearances grow if vehicles networks are integrated in the dynamically organized wide area networks. That is reason why relevant communications security treatment becomes crucial part of the ITS telecommunications solution. Besides of available “off shelf” security tools solution based on non-public universal identifier with dynamical extension and data selection according to actor role or category is presented.

This paper describes the second phase of Observatorio de Movilidad Vial de Pereira (OMV) project, which provides a platform for study of transit that can take the variables measured by the OMV and execute different simulations on the road network of Pereira, taking into account real-time status of traffic lights in field using NTCIP. This simulation platform enable the authorities to model various scenarios that may occur within the city road network, develop new strategies for continuous improvement of mobility and evaluate its impact, all this without directly affecting the real transit system.
