Background: Wood dust is one of the most common sources of occupational exposures in the world. Occupational exposure to wood dust inhalation results in respiratory disorders. Jimma was the endemic and pioneer of different wood and wood products that creates work opportunity for many individuals but, simultaneous exposure to different respiratory impairments was inevitable. Objective: The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of respiratory disorders among woodworkers in Jimma town, Ethiopia, 2018 G.C. Method: A community based comparative cross-sectional study was conducted among woodworkers and non-woodworkers in Jimma town, 2018 G.C. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select the exposed study group and convenience sampling technique was used to select the non-exposed group. Spirometer and clinical presentation was used to identify respiratory disorders. A total of 140 study participants were enrolled in the study. Data were checked for completeness, entered into Epi data version 1.7 and exported to SPSS version 20 for further analysis. Descriptive statistics were computed and results were presented with narratives, tables or figures. Results: The magnitudes of ventilatory impairments were higher among exposed group (44.2%) than non-exposed group (14.3%) specifically identified as restrictive disease (20% and 6.8%), obstructive disease (17.1% and 5.7%) and mixed pattern (7.1% and 0%] among woodworkers and control group respectively. Conclusion: In general the prevalence of respiratory disorders/ventilatory impairments was diagnosed among 41 respondents (29.3%) while the left 99 (70.7%) considered as having normal pulmonary function. The burdens of respiratory disorders were higher (44.2%) among woodworkers when compared with control group (14.3%).

Background: Respiratory viruses have been widely circulating in human populations and its variants have caused, and continue to cause, substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide. Objective:The objective of this study was to compare the presence of various circulating respiratory virus among the population in Delhi region. Materials and Method: The epidemiology and burden of human respiratory viruses were examined in a cohort of 106 patients from Delhi, India, by using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results: Of the 106 screened samples tested,35.84% patients were found positive for influenza A virus, 19.81% for Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV),5.66% for Rhinovirus (HRV), 3.77%for Parainfluenza (PIV) type 4 and Human Enterovirus (HEV), 2.83% for Human Coronavirus (HCoV) OC43, while 0.94% for influenza B, coronavirus NL63 and 229E, Parainfluenza type-2 and 3 and Bocavirus. The analysis revealed that Parainfluenza (PIV-1, 2 and 3), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) A and B, and Human Bocavirus (HBoV) are not commonly circulating among general population. Conclusion: The metapneumovirus and influenza A virus are important respiratory pathogens in patients. Apart from these HRV and HEV embark to the clinical significance in child care. Influenza and HRV caused the highest-impact illnesses. The current study depicts the burden of respiratory viruses in current population.

Complex Tuberous Sclerosis Associated with Pulmonary Lymphangioleiomyomatosis. J Pulm Med Respir Res 5: 020. Abstract Complex tuberous sclerosis is an autosomal dominant, sporadic, or familial neurocutaneous disease that affects multiple organs and systems, commonly leads to lymphangioleiomyomatosis and benign tumors in various tissues, possibly evolving with organic dysfunction. We present a case of complex tuberous sclerosis associated with lymphangioleiomyomatosis, whose initial presentation was bilateral pneumothorax,

Safety Versus Toxicity of Inhaled Dextromethorphan in Hematological, Biochemical and Histological approaches. Pulm Respir 5: 021. Abstract Background: Dextromethorphan (DM), an antitussive, was previ- ously proven to effectively reduce cough when pre-medicating patients before bronchoscopy. The purpose of this study was to evalu- ate the safety vs. toxicity of inhaled DM in animals. Methods: Female BALB/c mice were exposed to repeatedly admin- istered aerosolized DM of 1 or 10mg/kg (safety phase) or 1, 60 or 360mg/kg (toxicological phase). Control animals were exposed to 0.9% NS-based aerosol. At the end of each series of treatments histological, hematological and toxicological analyses were performed on collected samples. Results: Treatment-related microscopic lesions were observed only in the lungs, ranging from negligible to severe and diffused alveolar damage (DAD). These findings were detected 5 days after the end of 5-session trials of the 10mg/kg dose and 24 h after 15 inhalations of the toxic doses, respectively. The 1mg/kg dose was innocuous. No damage was detected after single sessions; nor were there biochemical or hematological pathologies detected in any of the groups. Conclusion: A direct correlation may exist between DM dosing and the resulting severity of lung histopathological damage. Additional variables inducing it were multiplicity of inhalations and the time elapsing between the last session of inhalation and the pathological findings of DAD. The single dose of 1mg/kg DM, that is above the clinically accepted DM oral dose, proved safe in the tested animals.
