Most Memorable Moment: One of my favorite moments is when I went to an elephant sanctuary for a day with some friends I met in my program. While at the sanctuary, we fed the elephants, learned about the elephant population in Thailand and the challenges they face, prepared food buckets for the next feeding, and even rode the elephants in the river next to the sanctuary. “Studying abroad sets you apart from other students... this has left me to be more flexible and approach new things with an open mind.” Nuy Beach is about 10 minutes by boat from Koh Phi Phi (which is an hour flight from Bangkok). Nichole practically had this beach to herself while relaxing before finals began.

The radical transformation of the system of global economic governance has become increasingly urgent. Events in the last years of the 20th century and at the turn of the millennium have underlined the fact that both the structure and the key institutions of the current international system are deeply dysfunctional. The Asian financial crisis in 1997, the unraveling of the World Trade Organizational ministerial meetings in Seattle in 1999 and Cancun in 2003, the stock market meltdown in 2001-2002, the collapse of the Argentine economy in 2002—these are among the milestones in the crisis of legitimacy that now pervades the system and its key actors.
