The chapter examines the characteristics of the Indonesian migrant community in Hong Kong apart from serving as an outlet for socializing and relaxing. It documents the visibility of same-sex relationships among the pop dance groups in the migrant community. The author then discusses the sexual ideologies that circulate in these dance groups, including the fashion shows for tomboys (tomboi) and girls (cewek) respectively, the kin world established by the dance groups, and the satisfaction and meanings obtained from their same-sex relationships. The discussion includes how the women evaluate men, particularly Indonesian men, South Asian men, and Hong Kong men. It is noteworthy that their new experiences of same-sex intimacy in Hong Kong reshape their past experiences and relationship with their husband or boyfriend in Indonesia.

The chapter addresses the intersectionality of religion, class, and race on the formation of gender and sexual subjectivities of Indonesian domestic workers in Hong Kong. It firstly addresses the conflict between the Islamic identity and a lesbian identity, and secondly, how the rules established by Hong Kong people shape the discourse on the sexuality of migrant workers and how the Indonesians react to it. Rather than assuming heteronormativity as a fixed set of expectations and behaviors, the chapter unravels the intertwined effects of race, class, gender and sexuality.

The chapter investigates the imaginings of home projected by Indonesian domestic workers while they are working in Hong Kong. Their imaginaries of future home provide important information for understanding their desires and sexuality in relation to the local ideology of migration and marriage as well as the political economy of family, that is, the gender division of labor and earnings contributed by women. The chapter also enriches the notion of Asian queer subjectivity by addressing how Indonesian women insinuated their homoerotic desires into the heteronormative logic of home. Addressing the Islamic context, the chapter also attends to the unmarried women who would not continue a same-sex relationship after returning to their natal family.
