continue living through the generations of Catholic youth and the Crusaders for which he lived. With his inspirational speech to numerous Catholic youth at the Eucharistic Congress on August 22, 1937, in Bosanski he again became the subject of an investigation by the regime authorities. He was arrested and charged with the criminal offence referred according to Article 3 of the Law on the Protection of the State of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. For that offence, the State Prosecutor requested a five-year sentence. However, this time, like all the previous Dr Protulipac was persistent in proving the truth for which he was fighting. Despite the regime’s witnesses testifying against him, the Court found no element for prosecution and conviction and he was again acquitted of all charges. In all his public appearances, Dr Protulipac was a visionary, a man of faith and a man for the faith and his fellowmen. Even today, his words spoken on the Pope’s Day in 1936 are still relevant. ‘’ Let us be convinced that the happy future, ours and that of the Croatian people comes first by the grace of the almighty good God. In vain are our efforts and sacrifices if we do not build with God.”

The paper discusses the historical development of the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Sacrament in the Zadar Cathedral, the Church of St. Anastasia, based on the matriculation record kept in the Permanent Exhibition of Church Art in Zadar. The relatively early foundation of this fraternity in Zadar at the beginning of the 16th century, encouraged by the Florentine Franciscan Cherubino Vulastio during the Lenten sermons in 1505, bears witness that the people of Zadar nurtured Eucharistic piety in the wake of growing practice at the level of the universal Church. Its numerous members and reputation of the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Sacrament in Zadar testify to its importance not only through the prism of the celebration of the Eucharist but also in terms of social events within the commune in the 16th century. This is evident in the constellation of the administrative structure of the fraternity, which consisted of representatives of the three urban classes: the priestly, the aristocratic, and the civic. The brotherhood spread the spirit of Eucharistic devotion following the provisions of its own chapters and canonical provisions, under the regular supervision of the Venetian state authorities. In the mid 16th century, the Venetians reformed its statutes and adapted them to Venetian legislation, which was common practice in Dalmatian communes. The historical course of the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Sacrament in the Cathedral of St. Anastasia in Zadar, from its foundation to its decadence in the 19th century was marked by spiritual and material growth, in harmony with the socio-political and ecclesiastical events in a particular period, whose cause-and-effect relationships can be read in part from documents kept in fraternal registers.

The paper focuses on the research of details from the military career of Nikola Medin, originally from Paštrovići ( conte di Castel Lastva ), a colonel of the Venetian overseas infantry ( Fantiol tramarini ) in the last decades of the Venetian Republic. The paper is based on the analysis of materials from the State Archives in Zadar (holdings: General Providuri for Dalmatia and Albania) and - to a greater extent - on the processing of documents from the Archivio di Stato di Venezia (holdings: Inquisitori sopra l’amministrazione dei pubblici ruoli). The introductory part of the paper summarises general data from the past of Paštrovići during the Venetian rule, with particular reference to the involvement of the local population in the Venetian trans-Adriatic land units (infantry: Fantiol tramarini and cavalry: Cavalleria Croati or Croati a cavallo ). The share of the Medin family in the Venetian army is summed up, and their ranks are stated. Most of the work focuses on the analysis of data about the promotion of Nikola Medin from the rank of deputy captain to colonel. The focus is placed on an in-depth analysis of the list of his personal companies from 1788 to 1796 with emphasis on the native origin of the soldiers he personally commanded. It was determined that some of the soldiers could be counted in the professional infantry, while some of them belonged to the territorial militias, i.e. cernides. Attached are lists of military personnel in Colonel Medin’s personal companies ( compagnia propria ) which are analysed here.
