This paper presents a compact shorted printed monopole antenna for machine-to-machine, remote sensing and rural wireless applications in the TV whitespace band from 470 MHz to 862 MHz. The antennas performance in this operating band is demonstrated.

A novel hybrid approach to the synthesis of non-uniformly spaced linear arrays of printed antennas is presented and thoroughly discussed in this paper. In order to account for parasitic mutual coupling between array elements, a dedicated optimization procedure in combination with a multiport network approach is adopted. Selected examples are included in order to assess the effectiveness and versatility of the proposed technique for a wide variety of applications.

Liquid crystal mixtures dedicated to microwave application have been developed. They have high tuning ranges, low dielectric losses and high reliability against the heat stress. These mixtures help to realize agile LC-based microwave components, such as phased array- or reflect array antennas.

Depending on the transmission frequency and signal bandwidth, space based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) may be impacted by disturbances caused by small-scale structured ionization. This paper considers the effects of scintillation (variations in amplitude and phase) on a narrow band SAR that utilizes the phase-gradient autofocus (PGA) method that attempts to compensate for the effects of phase errors across the synthetic aperture.
