Parasitological examinations of White-tailed Lapwing Vanellus leucurus (Charadriiformes: Charadriidae) collected from Dadu district (Sindh Province, Southern Pakistan) were carried out at the Department of Zoology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. A total of 64 trematodes belonging to the genus Echinoparyphium [1], were collected from the small intestine of two individual hosts. On the basis of the number and varying size of collar spines, number and size of ventral spines, body shape, arrangement of genital organs, distribution of vitellaria and other diagnostic characters, these trematodes were identified as Echinoparyphium recurvatum [2]. Our study provides the first Pakistan record of the trematode E. recurvatum with also the first record of V. leucurus as avian definitive host.

To compare the growth performance of guinea pigs fed with Panicum maximum or Pennisetum purpureum, 24 weaned guinea pigs, divided into 2 lots of 12 animals (7 males and 5 females) each were used. Animals in each lot received ad libitum grass associated with 20g / animal / day of a compound feed containing 16% of crude protein. The results show that at 8 weeks of age, the average weights of animals were comparable (326.64, 326.34g respectively for P. maximum and P. purpureum) for both grasses. Total gains and average daily gains were significantly higher (117.501 and 145.20, 3.36 and 4.15g respectively for the total gains totals and average daily gains of P. maximum and P. purpureum) with P. purpureum in males and regardless to the sex during postweaning growth. The average weights of the classical carcass (178.33 and 178.80g respectively for P. maximum and P. purpureum), and that of the commercial carcass (116.33 and 106.40g for P. maximum and P. purpureum respectively) were comparable. Commercial carcass yield has been statistically higher with P. maximum (40.62 and 35.10% for P. maximum and P. purpureum respectively). According to these results, P. purpureum seems to be better suited during the post-weaning growth in guinea pigs. DOI: 10.29011/2637-9988/100048
2637 - 9988/100048 DOI: 10.29011 /

The pollution of the coastline by the discharge of sewage and other detritus, particularly industrial, via the wadis has reached an alarming threshold in Algeria, 1420 blackheads in the wadis and beaches of the national territory have been recorded so far, while the operation has not yet been completed [1]. The Soummam River contains about 36% of Algeria’s freshwater fish species. This ichtyo fauna is threatened by various anthropogenic pressures (pollution, sand and gravel extraction, etc.) and must be protected by a conservation program [2]. Because of this great pollution of the industrials in to region of Bejaia which discharge their waste pollutes at the level of these wadis, we noticed large losses of fish, including those of the family of Mugilidae which are the subject of our thesis work. Hair Loss in Laboratory Bred Macaques: An Idiopathic Disorder of Major Consequence

In spite of the idiopathic nature of hair loss in non-human primates, the presentation of monkeys with hair loss has become a concern during site visits by Sponsors and federal regulatory authorities. This review attempts to define, describe, and somewhat defend the clinical findings of alopecia in colony-maintained nonhuman primates in research institutions and to allay any fears of maltreatment or neglect if the hairless monkey is found in the colony. Self-directed behaviors to the point of self-injury are common features of both nonhuman primates and humans. The etiology of alopecia in free-range and laboratory-maintained monkeys, as well as the human patient involves multiple factors, many of which are not in the direct control of behavioral management or therapy. Proper and complete documentation of initial observations, progression and recurrence, as well as active therapeutic interventions can go a long way to protect the laboratory from experiencing a “teaching moment” during regulatory agency inspections. Doi: 10.29011/ avst-146/100046
