Visually impaired people, in order to understand printed or hand written media, need the material to be present in Braille. They also require an understanding of the Braille language. The proposed system instead uses other senses that visually challenged person possesses, such as the ability to listen and convert the textual material into an audio stream. This concept starts with the capturing of the image and recognizing the text in the image using OCR/ICR. It then loads the required font templates for printed text into the conversion software. Subsequently for hand-written documents sub-stroke matching, segmentation and merging are used. The output of this process generates an electronic form of the printed media, like a text document. This is then cross referenced with a word repository for maximum accuracy, and in turn converted into an audio file. This information is then broadcast/multicast/unicast to the receiver who is paired with the source using ZigBee or Wi-Fi protocols. Since this technology is in the form of a pen, it is very convenient to use and is also portable. This instrument is a radically new one and can definitely be an empowering force in a blind person's life, and can be helpful in relieving them of their frustration of not being able to read whatever they want, thus enhancing the quality of their lives.

This paper presents the details of a specialized framework developed for the teaching of the modeling and simulation course for postgraduate students in Universiti Putra Malaysia. The unique feature of the subject is that it requires students ability to gain knowledge in several fields and relate them aptly to the need of performance analysis. IT also demands acquiring skills to develop comprehensive tools using the principles of discrete event simulation. The developed framework focuses on student-centered learning of queuing analysis, the development of models and relating them to performance analysis, the specialized activities to derive discrete event simulation components, and output analysis. It also deals with the tool's impact on research within the area. The framework was evaluated in a course. It showed the ability to enhance the level of student's understanding and application of competency gained to research.

Social networking plays a vital role in todays web. Users of the social network chat, discuss, entertain and watch personal contents in their favorite sites. Most of the users who use the social network are learners and they are very high in numbers. So, it will be an added advantage for the learners to learn from large community where the pool of content is available for learning. The content is available as a blog. Blogs are available in plenty. It becomes a tedious task for the learner to search and find the required content from the large collection of blogs. This work proposes a novel idea to use the social network for creation of blog content for group learning. It uses ontology for a specific subject to relate one blog with another blog. Blog posted for a particular title is related to the blogs of the same blogger or another blogger and it should be linked to the relevant blog. Blogger can also call for online discussion on a posted article which gives the clear picture about the understanding of the topic. Over and above the traditional learning system, a semantic blog based supportive learning system is introduced in this paper. The system yield high result if the user accepts the new learning method. High percentage of interest shown to discuss the topic and easy access and the availability of content is the added advantage.
