In wireless ad hoc networks, it is desired that the stations can efficiently work, with reduced human interference, during operation and save power from their batteries to extend the network lifetime. This paper investigates the energy consumption in equidistant multiple hops in a linear ad hoc network, employing the slotted Aloha as medium access control (MAC) protocol. We obtain the optimal transmission power as a function of physical and link layers parameters which results the optimized energy consumption per successfully transmitted bit across the linear network topology. Accordingly, we find that there are values of packet size, transmission rate and number of hops that attain the lowest energy consumption which can be used to extend the battery life of wireless communication devices.

In this paper we present a 3D facial reconstruction algorithm for facial shape classification. We propose a reconstruction method that preserves facial ratios independent on the captured poses allowing thus a precise facial shape classification/determination. We use an Active Appearance Model on a set of facial image captures with different poses on which we auto-calibrate the camera parameters (intrinsic and extrinsic). We then fit/morph the statistical model to a set of facial landmarks in order to obtain an accurate 3D face reconstruction. We show the obtained results and compare them with other approaches in the literature.

In LTE-A networks, relaying is a cost-effective solution to improve the capacity and enhance the coverage. However, in order to fully exploit the benefits of relaying, inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC) and resource sharing among different nodes and links need to be addressed. This paper focuses on Type 1 half-duplex inband relaying. Several strategies related to resource partition and frequency reuse between nodes and links are proposed for both access and backhaul subframes, under modified SFR-based resource sharing scheme for macro-ICIC. We also propose a way to multiplex the transmissions addressed to several RNs with the aim of improving the resource allocation. These proposals are compared for various relay deployments, taking into account the real impact of the capacity of backhaul links on system performance. Moreover, relay cell range expansion with several bias offsets is analyzed.

Although, it was shown that NC is a promising technique to improve the throughput; especially for multicast environment; it also bears negative side-effects (e.g., high decoding delay). Since streaming video are usually subject to strict delay constraints, high decoding delay must be resolved to enhance the performance of the NC schemes. To overcome this issue, this paper presents a new scheme named as Quality-Delay Tradeoff for video streaming over MANET using Network Coding and denoted as DQNC. This scheme operates into two major steps: (i) the first one is processed at the source node and (ii) the second one is treated by the intermediate node that can be considered as a receiver. In comparison with our previous works (i.e, [22] [23]) simulation results show that our new scheme outperforms the existing approaches by improving the video streaming quality and decreasing its decoding delay.
