The regeneration of the neuronal system in the injured brain is necessary for the therapeutic treatment of neurodegenerative disorders. In this study we evaluated the effect of the ethanolic extract of Newbouldia laevis on the central nervous system of rats. The extract considerably ameliorated apomorphine-induced rotational behaviour. The lesioned rats displayed contralateral rotation after the administration of apomorphine. Furthermore, pretreatment with different doses of the extract reduced the rotations in a dose-dependant manner. In another experiment, the extract relieved the declined dopamine level in the 6-hydroxydopamine( 6-OHDA) – injured striatum, while the levels of dopamine in rats without 6-OHDA lesions were not altered. Also, animals that received the extract and exposed to chronic stress in levodopa ( L-DOPA) – treated – 6 – OHDA lesioned displayed further decrease in the level of dopamine. The extract was also found to cause considerable reduction of spontaneous motor activity, revealing the neuroprotective and neuro-rescue properties rested in the plant extract. This decrease in activity is closely related to sedation resulting from depression of the central nervous system. Similarly, the loss of tyrosin hydroxylase(TH)-immunopositive neuronal cell induced by the exposure of rats to chronic stress was restored by the administration of the extract 48.4%, 72.6% and 94.6% dose dependently. These findings offered insights into the understanding of the Parkinson,s disease process, its cause or origin. The extract has equally stepped down the prevailing neurodegeneration in Parkinson,s disease.

Their background information was gathered through interviews with native and local herbalists. The leaves were air dried, reduced into coarse powder and extracted with ethanol. The result revealed that the phytochemicals in the plant extracts contained binding properties that are active against snake bites. These secondary metabolites effectively neutralized and prevent tissue damage induced by venom toxins. Severe pain which has been recorgnised as one of the age long symptoms of Echis ocellatus envenomation was attenuated by the three plants investigated. They possessed phytochemical components which alleviated the writhing movements developed from severe pains. The blockage of blood flow to body organs was also effectively arrested by the plant extracts. At 200 mg/kg b.wt, 30 minutes after venom administration, Anogeisus leiocapus extract recorded the highest percentage of survived rats. At 600 mg/kg b.wt, both Anogeisus leicapus and Euphobia hirta exerted 100% protection, while that of Ageratum conyzoide extract stood at 88-89% survival of rats. The percentage of survived rats increased dose dependently. Severe pain which is one of the age long symptoms of Echis ocellatus envenomation was attenuated by the plant extracts investigated.

Diabetes mellitus affected 1.8 percent of people in West Java Province, with an incidence rate of 4,761 cases in the city of Bandung. The purpose of this study was to look at the effects of body mass index, nutrition, and physical activity on the occurrence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. An analytical study with a control case design was employed in the investigation. The study was carried out in the Arcamanik Health Center’s working area. In this study, the case population consisted of all type 2 diabetes patients, whereas the control group consisted of all individuals who did not have diabetes mellitus. The sample size was 100 people. The chi-square test is used to analyse data. Body mass index was found to be connected with the incidence of type 2 diabetes (p =0.013), diet was found to be associated with the incidence of type 2 diabetes (p=0.003), and physical activity was found to be associated with the incidence of type 2 diabetes (p=0.016). Body mass index, nutrition, and physical activity are all risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Obese persons must improve their physical activity, maintain their food, and lose weight to avoid a rise in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes. Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, obesity, diet, physical activity
