The Effect of Rosetta Stone Application on Student’s English Reading Comprehension 罗塞塔石碑应用对学生英语阅读理解的影响

This study investigated the use of Rosetta Stone application as a media in EFL students’ reading comprehension. This study implemented a quantitative approach in achieving the research objective which is finding out the effect size of Rosetta Stone application on students’ reading comprehension. The experimental design was carried out by using pre-test and post-test as the instruments to collect the data. The data from the pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using SPSS. The Cohens’d effect size in paired sample effect size determined the significant effect of the implementation of Rosetta Stone application on students’ reading comprehension. This study was conducted in SMPN 4 Tangerang Selatan. This research involved ten classes as the population, with a sample of class 8.1 that consisted of 42 EFL students. Based on the analysis of the data, the mean of the post-test is higher than the pre-test with a difference of 36.35 points. The effect size is considered high since 3.260 is higher than 1 (>1). Therefore, the use of Rosetta Stone application has a high effect on students’ reading comprehension. It is recommended for teachers especially EFL to implement Rosetta Stone application in students’ reading comprehension. Further studies are advised to investigate the students’ perception, as well as the advantages and limitations of Rosetta Stone application on students’ reading skills.

Toleransi Beragama dan Harmonisasi Sosial dalam Perspektif Islam 从伊斯兰教的角度来看,宗教宽容和社会和谐

Manusia sebagai makhluk ciptaan Allah SAW selain menghambakan kepadanya juga diperintahkan dalam menciptakan sebuah nilai-nilai kedamaian. Setiap agama mengajarkan nilai-nilai toleransi. Sebagian dari hasil temuan bahwa Islam hadir sebagai agama yang menjunjung tinggi nilai perdamaian dan kerukunan. Islam menawarkan konsep toleransi terhadap perbedaan yang disebut dengan tasamuh, Sebab di dalam konsep tasamuh terdapat nilai kasih (rahmat), kebijaksanaan (hikmat), kemaslahatan universal (maslahat ammat), keadilan (adl).!Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kajian pustaka atau library research. Penelitian pustaka merupakan penelitian yang menggunakan jurnal, buku-buku serta majalah yang berhubungan dengan kajian penelitian yang diangkat sebagai data primer untuk dijadikan sebagai sumber referensi ini disajikan dalam bentuk deskriptif yang memiliki fokus penelitian pada buku serta kajian pustaka yang tidak membutuhkan penelitian lapangan. Toleransi dalam konteks ini ditinjau dari beberapa aspek yaitu teologis, sosiologis dan budaya. Studi agama-agama sering kita jumpai tipologi dalam beragama, yaitu eksklusif dan inklusif, misalnya, bukanlah sikap beragama yang terpisah-pisah berdasarkan tahapan cara beragama, tetapi merupakan satu kesatuan yang melekat pada manusia beragama. Truth claim, sebagai bentuk cara beragama yang eksklusif, harus dipelihara dan dipertahankan, tetapi pada saat yang bersamaan ketika berinteraksi dengan keyakinan dan faham keagamaan yang berbeda, maka kita bersikap inklusif. Kedua sikap ini diajarkan Islam. oleh sang pemberi contoh Nabi Muhammad SAW sebagai Rasul sewaktu di Madinah yang melindungi setiap warganya baik muslim maupun non muslim dari musuhnya sehingga terciptalah piagam madinah.

The Meaning of Traditional Titles in the Traditional Marriage Ceremony of the South Sumatra Komering Community 南苏门答腊岛科莫林族传统婚姻仪式中传统头衔的意义

The tradition of giving customary titles is interesting to study because of some of the problems in it. Among other things, why was the awarding of the Komering wedding ceremony given to all people? What is the background for giving customary titles? How is the community wedding procession Komering? Some of the problems above are unique and different from the customs of other ethnic groups in Indonesia. This study took the location of Tanjung Lubuk Ogan Komering Ilir Subdistrict, South Sumatra. By using the theory of symbols put forward by Victor Turner with an ethical approach, namely categorization comes from researchers who refer to previous concepts, and emics, namely categorization of phenomena according to local residents (cultural owners). Data collection in this study was carried out with three techniques namely observation, in-depth interviews and secondary data tracing. In this study, researchers used qualitative analysis. Because this research is included in cultural research. The result of this research is that the awarding of customary titles is an ancient Malay cultural heritage, especially the Hindu cultural heritage of the Srivijaya period, which is still preserved today. This tradition is carried out when young women in the Komering community reach adulthood which are marked by a marriage. At that time it was a transition from adolescence to adulthood, so it should be given an honor in the form of a traditional title alias title.
