The article deals with the subject of alcohol-drinking experiences of students of mass(public) and Catholic high schools. In the study, it was decided to compare: the age ofbeginning drinking alcohol, current experiences related to alcohol consumption, and theinfluence of faith on alcohol consumption. The research was carried out using the questionnairesurvey method in a group of mass (public) and catholic high school students.Research shows that high school mass (public) students consume alcohol more often thanstudents of a Catholic school. Moreover, the majority of mainstream students in mass(public)school say that faith has no influence on the decision to stop drinking alcohol, andmore than half of Catholic school respondents believe that they could give up drinkingbecause of their faith. Research also shows that in the case of students from two schools, young people of a similar age start drinking alcohol between the ages of 12 and 14. Theanalysis of the above research results shows that the respondents have a multitude ofexperiences related to alcohol consumption.

Masking in autism. Analysis of the phenomenon
Pub Date : 2023-06-30 DOI: 10.5604/01.3001.0053.8978
Aleksandra Buchholz
One of the most important aspects of the functioning of people with autism is masking. Thisis a strategy aimed at minimizing the specific symptoms of the neurotype and an attempt toimplement normative patterns into one’s own repertoire of behaviour. Masking is motivatedby the need for adaptation and social acceptance. It is a manifestation of an internalized socialneed to remain in the pattern of a broadly understood behavioural norm. It is supposed tocounteract ostracism, making an autistic person similar to the neurotypical majority. Thearticle is a narrative review, based on the most current thematic literature, taking into accountthe self-advocacy voice of people diagnosed with autism. Its main goal is to present themechanisms of masking and its consequences on the individual and social level. An extensive review of the research indicated some common features of the analysedphenomenon. Masking can take the form of camouflage, i.e. masking autistic features, and compensation, i.e. the use of strategies aimed at overcoming non-neurotypical needs.Masking is supported by social expectations of normativity. Masking is a phenomenon thatcharacterizes women in particular. The female autistic phenotype is characterized by greaterability to imitate social behaviour, including greater ability to control and inhibit the expressionof autism symptoms, and greater social needs. This is conducive to the implementation ofstrategies based on pretending to be socially acceptable models. Masking makes it impossibleto build an authentic identity. Masking has emotional consequences in the form of a strongoverload as a result of inhibiting needs and constant control of one’s own behaviour.Masking is only a seemingly adaptive strategy. In fact, it exposes you to serious anxietydisorders, depression and prevents you from developing self-awareness and living inharmony with your own identity. There is an ongoing need for a change in the socialperception of autism that would increase acceptance of alternative forms of expression ofhuman neurotypes.

The aim of the presented research wasto describe the scale of gambling among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic, which contributed to the fact that young people spend a significant amount of time online, what makes gambling much more dangerous for minors. The study involved 96 secondaryschool students who completed the Lodz Questionnaire for Gambling Problemsamong Adolescents. This tool allows you to describe the results on three scales: the PlayingFrequency Scale, the Gambling Prevalence Scale and the Irrational Gambling ThinkingScale.Research has shown that during the COVID-19 pandemic, compared to 2015 data, the frequency of gambling by young people increased significantly. Some of them experienceproblems in their everyday life because of this.Secondary school students constitute an important group to whom prevention programsin the field of addiction to gambling should be addressed. Especially the widespreadaccess to the Internet, a large proportion of the time spent online and the COVID-19pandemic are important risk factors that may account for the exacerbation of gamblingproblems in the youth group.

The article describes the issue of the rights of every human being, with particular emphasison the rights of people with disabilities, including the right to education in principle. On the basis of the analysis of the rights of people with disabilities, the situation of inequalitiesin access to education for children, adolescents, people with a deep intellectualdisability, who until now do not have the status of a student in Poland, but only the statusof a pupil, participant in the so-called rehabilitation and educational classes. This inequalityby the educational authorities is generally justified by the specificity of the developmentand psychophysical and psychosocial functioning of these people and the lack of theso-called core curriculum. In view of the above, an attempt was made to present possibleactivities for the education of children and adolescents with a deep intellectual disabilityin the status of a student, focusing not so much on the field of special education, but onthe field of inclusive education.
