INTRODUCTION: About 38 million people are exposed to carbamazepine per year for the treatment of epilepsy. The drug is on the WHO essential list. The treatment for epilepsy happens in a prophylactic way, to provide the patient with a better life condition. Therefore, in addition to the choice of medication and the dose required for everyone, adherence to therapy is also of great importance in the functioning of the treatment. Fingerprint is widely used in the forensic area, this matrix is also appearing in the toxicological and clinical area, to find out if the individual has ingested a substance. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A method was validated in High Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry, following the validation parameters of the Food and Drug Administration for the quantification of carbamazepine (CBZ) in fingerprints. RESULTS: The method demonstrated high sensitivity for detecting CBZ in fingerprint samples. The detection limit of the method was 0.05 ng digital-1 for CBZ. The intra-assay precision ranged from 3.58 to 7.90%. The inter-assay precision was 2.16 to 5.79% for CBZ. The accuracy presented by the method ranged from 95.02 to 102.76%. DISCUSSION: Liquid chromatography conditions play a key role in achieving fast and effective component separation and ionization. CONCLUSION: Thus, a simple and sensitive method is being validated for CBZ quantification in fingerprint samples deposited on glass slides.

INTRODUCTION: Sexual violence is rooted in society and has several consequences that affect individual and collective health. This crime is linked to interpersonal relationships and the daily life of the population, which were clearly modified during the covid-19 pandemic. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the reports of sexual violence in the archives of Instituto Médico Legal Estácio de Lima, and Hospital da Mulher Dr. Nise da Silveira, both in Maceió/AL, corresponding to the pre-pandemic period (2018 and 2019) and the pandemic period (2020 and 2021), seeking a possible change in the profile of this crime. MATERIAL AND METHOD: This is a documentary, epidemiological, descriptive and analytical study, using sampling. A total of 2,152 reports from the IML Estácio de Lima file were analyzed between the years 2018 to 2021. RESULTS: It was found that the prevalent gender was female, but there was an increase in the percentage of males of 4.38% in the pandemic period. The predominant age group was 11 to 20 years old. In the years 2018, 2019 and 2021, those accused of committing the crime were predominantly known people, and in 2021, family members represented the majority of the aggressors. DISCUSSION: The profile of cases of sexual violence has changed markedly during the covid-19 pandemic, probably due to the restrictive measures imposed to reduce the spread of the virus in society. CONCLUSION: Human activities, interpersonal relationships and, consequently, the profile of cases of sexual violence, were clearly altered due to the covid-19 pandemic. Keywords: Covid-19; Sexual violence; Medico-legal expertise.

In this case report, the victim’s body displayed four incisive wounds to the anterior part of the neck. Three of these wounds had hesitation marks, indicating that the cause of death was likely suicidal. However, two cervical constriction marks suggested the possibility of strangulation. As the police investigation progressed, it was discovered that these marks were consistent with the pattern left by the rope used by the killers to drag the body to a remote location away from the crime scene. The hesitation marks, on the other hand, were attributed to the killer’s alcohol intoxication.

In this sense, we analyzed 86 autopsy reports of hanged and strangled individuals performed at the Medico Legal Institute (IML) Estácio de Lima, in Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil, between 2018 and 2019. We compared the necropsy techniques used in the IML with what the literature recommends, also reviewing the technical manuals for medical examiners in three states.

INTRODUCTION: in Ceará, children and adolescents represent the main victims of sexual crimes. Due to this, the objective of this work is to analyze this violence and ensure wide dissemination of data related to public security in the state of Ceará. MATERIAL AND METHOD: this is a descriptive and quantitative epidemiological study carried out using secondary data published by the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense of Ceará (SSPDS/CE) through the Statistics and Geoprocessing Management (GEESP/SUPESP) on crime and sexual violence in Ceará from January 2020 to July 2022. RESULTS: 4,692 cases were reported during the study period, with an average monthly crime rate of 154.91 crimes per month in 2020, 162.16 crimes per month in 2021, and 147.83 crimes per month in 2022. DISCUSSION: the results presented in this study, although the year 2022 is not finalized, show higher rates of sexual crime when compared to the months from March to June of previous years. The increase in these crimes could be related to the return of post-pandemic activities, the political period, and other events. CONCLUSION: from March to June 2022, an increase in sexual crimes was observed, and, in view of this, there is a need for public bodies responsible for security to seek means that can prevent these events.
