Considered rare weevil species Lixus fasciculatus Boheman, 1836 (Curculionidae) was recorded on the Czechowskie Hills in Lublin (E Poland) in 2022. More than 30 adults were found, as well as numerous L1 – L3 larvae and eggs. All the developmental stadia were found on mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) growing in localities with xerothermic or ruderal plant communities.

A male of Pipistrellus kuhlii lepidus was found in a large housing estate in Warsaw (central Poland) on 9th March 2023. The bat hibernated in a crevice on balcony on the sixth storey of a residential house. This is the second finding of this species in Warsaw, which may suggest that a stable population of the species has been formed there. The presence of P. k. lepidus in Warsaw is probably an effect of its natural expansion from south-east Europe.

The research article presents a study of acoustic behaviour of the bush cricket Isophya camptoxypha from Ukrainian Carpathians. However, it has also been discovered in forest meadows located in the Uzh River valley, which is part of the Danube catchment basin. The article discusses the unique stridulations of this species in vivo and in natural settings, as well as the acoustic interactions between male bush-crickets during duet singing. This study provides valuable insights into the intricate acoustic behaviour of Isophya camptoxypha.

The analysis of pellets of the tawny owl Strix aluco collected in the years 2009–2023 in 22 sites (ten in the Biebrza Basin and twelve in Knyszyn Forest) allowed for finding four species of Soricomorpha, nine species of Chiroptera and fifteen species of Rodentia (4, 5 and 12 in the Biebrza Basin and 4, 7 and 13 in Knyszyn Forest, respectively). Most common and most frequently caught by owls were: the bank vole Clethrionomys glareolus, the yellow-necked mouse Apodemus flavicollis and the common shrew Sorex araneus. Valuable species of bats included the pond bat Myotis dasycneme and the western barbastelle Barbastella barbastellus noted in Knyszyn Forest. Rare rodents found in both study areas were: the northern birch mouse Sicista betulina and the common dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius while the forest dormouse Dryomys nitedula was noted only in Knyszyn Forest. The European water vole Arvicola amphibius commonly noted in the Biebrza Basin was not found in Knyszyn Forest. On the contrary, the common pine vole Microtus subterraneus was reecorded only in Knyszyn Forest.

Contributing reliable data sets to support conservation efforts is currently the most important target of taxonomy and faunistics, yet the lack of statistically significant data makes unambiguous recommendations based on actual biodiversity mostly elusive. Especially the abundance distribution of large and ecologically diverse groups as a prerequisite to assess regional differences is in general not available. In this study a comprehensive faunistic record of Phoridae comprising about 290 species and more than 62000 specimens from a single location in NE-Westphalia caught over five years in a Malaise trap and occasionally by further methods is presented. The study will be distributed among two parts: I) Genera except Megaselia. II) Megaselia. This first part is devoted to 71 species of Phoridae except Megaselia: their sex ratio, abundance distribution, rarefaction and a thorough presentation of rare species and species new to the area of investigation including annotations concerning morphology, ecology, distribution and used literature. Where feasible a photo showing important characters has been added.

New data on the occurrence of Steatoda triangulosa (Walckenaer, 1802) (Araneae: Theridiidae) in Poland

Steatoda triangulosa (Walckenaer, 1802) is a spider species known from most areas of the Palaearctic, and has also been introduced to North America. In the southern part of its range, this spider species lives in natural habitats, while in regions with a colder climate, e.g. Western and Central Europe, it is usually found in synanthropic conditions. The first records of S. triangulosa were made in Poland at the beginning of the 21st century and probably represent single, accidentally introduced specimens. This paper presents information on recent observations and new localities that now indicate that S. triangulosa is a well-established synanthropic species in Poland.
Steatoda triangulosa (Walckenaer, 1802)
