Charles Chanda
This research study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the significant sources of inventory shrinkage at a Zambian Department Chain Store and to formulate strategies for its mitigation. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study integrates data from security reports and structured open ended interview responses from various employees within the organization. The research specifically focuses on three objectives: identifying the sources of shrinkage, assessing its impact on the store both financially and non-financially, and developing mechanisms for its elimination or minimization. The findings reveal a multi-faceted problem with significant contributions from employee theft, shoplifting, administrative errors and vendor fraud. Financially, the store incurred a loss of over K35,973.81 in a span of six months, highlighting the urgency of addressing the issue. Beyond the financial toll, the study also uncovers the adverse effects of shrinkage on employee morale and customer relations, adding layers of complexity to the problem. Given the multi-dimensional nature of the issue, the study proposes a phased, multi-faceted strategy tailored to different management levels within the organization. The study not only offers practical solutions for the Zambian Department Chain Store but also contributes to the academic discourse on retail shrinkage.

The overarching focus of this study was to establish the effect of motivation on employee performance at a Government Agency responsible for the collection, enforcement and administration of various taxes in Zambia. The study objectives were to establish the types of motivation the company provided to its employees, examine the employees’ expectations of motivation and assess the effect of motivation on employee performance. A quantitative approach to which a descriptive case study was adopted for this study. Stratified random sampling of participants was employed to select respondents from Lusaka Headquarters and a questionnaire with Likert scale statements was used for data collection. Questionnaires were administered via email and 183 respondents returned fully answered questionnaires. The findings revealed that 65% of motivation were motivated. The study also revealed that employees had expectations on the type of motivation to be provided to them by their management. Regarding the effect of motivation on employee performance, it was revealed that motivation influenced individual hard work, reinforcement of morals and integrity, rejection of under hand bribes by clients and many other effects. The findings of the hypothesis showed that the mean values were skewed towards the Likert responses ‘agree’ with 80% of employees agreeing to motivation variables. This confirmed that motivation affected employee performance by 100%. The study concluded that, motivation played a pivotal role where productivity through human effort was concerned. The study made three recommendations: The management and Board should understand human nature and their employees’ needs at workplace as this determined the direction on the correct motivation to provide to them. The Government Agency should create a committee of incentives provision comprising ordinary employees and management personnel in order to have inclusive suggestions of incentives that have a bearing on the needs of the employees. Lastly employees should be informed and oriented on the role of motivation as it influences their daily work efforts.

Green innovations (GI) help reduce the negative impact on the environment. Because of their dynamic activities and resulting in more economic performance, customers are willing to pay the premium price for environmental health products. Hence, GI is an important tool for businesses to increase their market share and sustainability. The objective of this article is to identify research gaps in green Innovation and to discuss future implications. This study used the systematic literature review (SLR) methodology and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Following the predetermined inclusion criteria, 60 articles from the Google Scholar and lens.org databases, were included for review as the findings research gaps were identified namely theoretical gaps, thematic area gaps (empirical gaps) contextual gaps, and methodological gaps. Further, it provides some theoretical and future research implications. This study contributes to the body of knowledge on green innovation by addressing significant knowledge gaps. This knowledge contributes to future researchers designing and carrying out a study to fill these identified research gaps and practitioners who need to benefit from an understanding of the different aspects of GI.

Investment in the stock market requires a delicate balance between profitability and risk management, with risk aversion playing a vital role. This study explores the ARIMA forecasting method to predict S&P BSE SENSEX returns, providing valuable insights for investors and financial experts. Using a 3-year dataset, the ARIMA (3,1,1) model was identified as the optimal choice. Diagnostic checks confirmed its reliability, ensuring unbiased and accurate forecasts. In static forecasting, the model exhibited high-quality performance with low error rates. Dynamic forecasting further revealed precision in predicting future values. While the ARIMA model aids in making informed financial decisions, it's crucial to acknowledge its limitations. This research contributes to the understanding of stock market forecasting methodologies, benefiting investors and analysts in navigating this dynamic landscape.
