The Use of Language Learning and Teaching Material from a Perspective of Embodied Cognition 从体现认知的角度看语言学习和教学材料的使用

The use of Language Learning and Teaching (LLT) materials directly affects the realization of the function of LLT materials, language teaching and learning effects. The traditional teaching ideas that teach what has said on the textbook ignoring the dynamic interaction of students’ body, cognition and environment, which caused physical and mental separation, and affects the embodied experience of language learning process. Teachers should change the way LLT materials are used to promote students’ embodied experience and effectiveness of language learning in both cognitive and behavioral level. Based on the embodied cognition theory, this qualitative study will examine how an EFL teacher used the different LLT materials practice the embodied English language teaching in Primary School. This study also attempts to examine verify the acceptability and effectiveness of embodied English teaching through practice.
语文教材的使用直接影响着语文教材功能的实现,影响着语文教学效果。传统的教学思想是照本宣科,忽视了学生身体、认知和环境的动态互动,造成了身心分离,影响了语言学习过程的体现性体验。教师应改变语言学习材料的使用方式,从认知和行为两个层面促进学生的体现性体验,提高语言学习的有效性。基于具身认知理论,本定性研究将考察一位英语教师如何在小学英语教学中使用不同的语言学习材料进行具身英语教学实践。本研究还试图通过实践检验体现式英语教学的可接受性和有效性。

An Analysis of Jia Tanchun’s “Three Talents” Character Image in the English Translation of Dream of the Red Mansions—Based on David Hawkes’s and Yang Xianyi’s Versions 红楼梦》英译本中贾探春 "三才 "人物形象分析--基于戴维-霍克斯和杨宪益的版本

The current study aims to analyze the characterization of Jia Tanchun in English versions of Dream of the Red Chamber translated by David Hawkes and Yang Xianyi. As an important character in Dream of the Red Chamber, Jia Tanchun’s image may differ in different English translations. By comparing and analyzing the translations of the two versions, this study reveals the ways in which different translations portray the character of Jia Tanchun and the cultural factors involved. By analyzing the translated texts about Jia Tanchun in the two versions, the current study finds that in Hawkes’s translation, the image of Jia Tanchun is endowed with a kind of wisdom, calmness and thoughtfulness, while Yang Xianyi’s translation highlights Jia Tanchun’s boldness, passion and adventurousness more. This may stem from the differences in the translators’ understanding of the original image of Jia Tanchun, as well as the influence of translation style and cultural background. In the process of translation, the characterization of Jia Tanchun’s “three talents” has attracted much attention. Based on the two versions, this study analyzes Jia Tanchun’s talents in management, learning and handling. The characterization of Jia Tanchun’s “three talents” is comprehensively presented in Hawkes’s and Yang Xianyi’s translations. Additionally, this study provides a new perspective for the translation of Dream of the Red Chamber and calls on translators to emphasize the shaping and expression of the characters in the process of translation and convey the rich connotation of the original. Meanwhile, readers should also keep an open and comparative mind when reading different translations to understand the work from multiple perspectives.

An Ecocritical Study of Gary Snyder’s Translation of Han Shan Poetry 加里-斯奈德汉山诗歌翻译的生态批评研究

Gary Snyder, a contemporary American ecological poet, is deeply influenced by East-West ecological wisdom, forming his own unique ecological philosophy. Gary Snyder’s ecological philosophy influences his selection of poems to translate and translation methods in his English translation of Han Shan poetry. In turn, Gary Snyder’s translation also promotes the formation of his ecological philosophy to a certain extent. Faced with the increasingly serious ecological crisis, this study attempts to examine Gary Snyder’s translation of Han Shan poetry from the ecocritical perspective, exploring its ecological connotations and values from three aspects: translation selection, translation methods, and translation impact. The ecocritical study in this article aims to insert an ecological dimension to the study on English translation of poetry, and give advice to the strategy “Chinese Culture Going Global”, especially “Chinese Ecological Culture Going Global”.

Value Conflict and Personal Choice in The Scarlet Letter from the Perspective of Ethical Literary Criticism 从伦理文学批评的角度看《红字》中的价值冲突和个人选择

Nathaniel Hawthorne was the preeminent American Romantic writer of the 19th century. The Scarlet Letter, as Hawthorne’s classic work, has been praised by most critics. Hawthorne paid attention to the ethical problems of Hester and Dimmesdale and gave a comprehensive depiction of their ethical choices after they had violated the Puritan ethical norms. This paper intends to use ethical literary criticism proposed by Professor Nie Zhenzhao, based on ethical dilemma and ethical choice, within the ethical backdrop of New England, to analyze ethical conflicts and ethical choices of the protagonists in the novel. Ultimately, it seeks to warn people the importance of complying with the ethical norms of the society. Exploring the ethical and moral values embedded in The Scarlet Letter will enhance the domestic study of Hawthorne’s works and better realize the didactic function of literature.

Research on Business English Course Construction in Application-oriented Colleges under the Background of Cross Border E-commerce 跨境电子商务背景下应用型高校商务英语课程建设研究

With the rapid development of cross border E-commerce, more and more attention is being paid to business English in Chinese students’ employment, students are required to not only have good basic language skills, but also considerable professional knowledge and practical ability in business English. This paper explores the development of business English course in application-oriented colleges by reading and analyzing relative online and offline literature and further puts forward ways to improve the teaching from both theoretical and practical perspectives by conducting questionnaires and interviews. Taken Chongqing College of Mobile Communication as an example, this paper analyzes the current situation of business English course in application-oriented colleges, point out the existing problems, and put forward corresponding solutions, so as to improve the teaching efficiency of business English course and give implications to the further development of ESP courses.
随着跨境电子商务的快速发展,商务英语在中国学生就业中越来越受到重视,要求学生不仅要有良好的语言基本功,还要有相当的商务英语专业知识和实践能力。本文通过对线上线下相关文献的阅读和分析,对应用型高校商务英语课程的发展进行了探讨,并通过问卷调查和访谈的方式,从理论和实践两个角度进一步提出了改进教学的方法。本文以重庆移动通信职业技术学院为例,分析了应用型院校商务英语课程的现状,指出了存在的问题,并提出了相应的解决方案,以期提高商务英语课程的教学效率,为ESP课程的进一步发展提供借鉴。

Enhancing IELTS Speaking Skills through Blended Learning: A Pedagogical Action Research 通过混合式学习提高雅思口语技能:教学行动研究

This pedagogical action research aimed to assess the impact of a blended learning approach on improving IELTS speaking skills among students. Traditional teaching methods in IELTS courses often faced limitations regarding insufficient practice time, inadequate feedback, and a lack of community and interactivity among students.Results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ speaking performance based on pre-test and post-test scores. The blended learning environment garnered positive feedback from most participants, enhancing engagement, interaction, and satisfaction levels. However, challenges with asynchronous online feedback surfaced, signaling areas for refinement.This study underscores the value of blended learning in overcoming traditional teaching limitations, offering insights into its potential for fostering improved IELTS speaking skills through enhanced engagement and comprehensive feedback mechanisms.
