In the 1980s, historical and political changes took place in the United States. Under these circumstances, the radical Americans in the 1960s gave way to a new stereotype—yuppies, who were preoccupied with physical fitness, psychic harmony and successful career with high salaries. In summary, historical and political changes converged to contribute to the emergence of American yuppie culture in the 1980s.

Owing to the political, economic and cultural shifts during the 1960s and 1970s in the United States, 1980s welcomed another group of trendsetters——yuppies, with the former tide of hippie movement gradually ebbing away. They characterized themselves by pursuing successful career, enjoying luxurious products and spiritual entertainment so as to deduct their materialism, pragmatism and hedonism in an alternative way.

The study examines the pivotal role of local government in fostering transformative initiatives in Kumbo Municipality and their broader developmental impact. Despite numerous studies on local governance, there is limited established information on transformative initiatives. The study employs qualitative methods, including interviews and desk research. While acknowledging certain accomplishments in life-transforming endeavours, the paper contends that these achievements remain quantitatively inadequate relative to the pressing needs of the community, and the pace of progress is notably sluggish. The findings reveal that certain projects have proven ephemeral due to issues in conception, implementation, and maintenance. Additionally, the study reveals a significant gap between the idealized vision of decentralization enshrined in Cameroon's 1996 constitution and the reality on the ground, as local government institutions haven't been effectively empowered. Urgent reforms are imperative for local governance to catalyze positive change, necessitating a steadfast adherence to the autonomy principles articulated in the constitution. Only through such comprehensive reforms can local government evolve into an effective instrument for transformative development in Kumbo Municipality.

The signing of the Nigerian Petroleum Industry Act in 2021 by the Buhari administration signified a paradigm shift from voluntary to statutory mandated community investment strategy of oil and gas companies in Nigeria. In order words, the discretionary Community investment strategies (Memorandum of Understanding) hitherto employed by oil and gas production and exploration companies to ameliorate the squabbles between them and their respective host community, and thereby gain unhindered access to operate no longer obtains. The deployment framework, processes and procedures to guide its (PIA) implementation is stated in the ACT. Also, further clarifications on gray areas in the ACT were expounded in the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) guidelines. However, despite the robustness of the ACT and the NUPRC guidelines, settlors and host communities alike have raised pertinent questions regarding its implementation. The paper is aimed at objectively identifying the existing gaps in the Petroleum Industry Act and the NUPRC guideline as it relates to the host community component with a view to suggests/recommends possible solutions.

The formation of an open, democratic, progressive and modern school is the pursuit of the entire educational community. In this paper, the opinions of prospective teachers are being explored on how they envision the school in which they wish to work. From their answers, it can be concluded that their main concern is the formation of a space with perfect infrastructure, equipment, and staffing. In addition, a school that will plan and implement innovative actions and programs will aim on the one hand at the all-around development of each student's personality and on the other hand at creating good working conditions for all teachers. In such an environment, which will be characterized by good interpersonal relations, respect and mutual understanding, the moral values and ideals that should accompany the citizens of a society could be cultivated.
